Dogswell - Dangerous Dog Food?

by Kathy
(Charlottesville, VA)

Hi,

My beautiful dog died on Dec. 21st. She was perfectly healthy when I started her on a new dog food....all natural, called Dogswell Healthy Hips, Chicken and Oats.

She got ill 4 days with flu like symptoms, saw a vet and she died the next morning after experiencing terrible pain and breathing problems.

The vet also thought it was the dog food, but can't find it on a recall list. The company is evasive and our local supermarket pulled it off the shelf, which leads me to believe something is going on.

They say it is not on recall. Hear anything about this food co. ???

haven't experienced a problem
by: James

hi guys/gals, sorry for your loses but I can honestly say that my dog has eaten a whole 4 lb bag of Dogswell Nutrisca chicken and chickpea recipe and not only not gotten sick, he's enjoying it more than any dry food we've bought in the past. Food in the past has had to be mixed with wet food, etc. to get him to eat it. This stuff we can just put in a dish and he'll eat it as is.

Healthy Hips
by: Anonymous

I am not sure what the outcome was. I fed my dog a bit of a canned food called Healthy Hips. He threw up that night and I never fed it to him again. Will check out the exact name.

Dogswell Does it Again!
by: Anonymous

We had never heard about Dogswell until we bought their Happy Hips Chicken Breast treats for our two older Pomeranians, who both ended up in the Vet hospital this week with diarrhea & vomiting. Within 3 days of ingesting them, they both became sick. They each had only one, and fortunately for us, they will recover.

But please spread the word. These were purchased on August 10, 2011. It appears to still be going on. We did not know until after our dogs became sick, that these treats were made in China. We bought them from a very reputable Organic Supermarket chain that lead us to believe that all of their products were safe. We have contacted the FDA and filed a complaint.

dog food analysis
by: kathy

Thank you for you sympathy, Deana. I have been in contact with the Dogswell dog food company and they offered to have the food tested at a 3rd party lab in Tenn. They sent a UPS label. I sent it off this week so I am waiting for the results.

I had given her the biscuits by this company also but threw the bag away when she died...wish I had kept it for testing purposes.

I certainly will tell you all if it is contaminated.

Very sorry...
by: Deanna B.

Very sorry to hear about what happened to your dog. Perhaps your vet could have the food analyzed? I'm sorry for your loss.

Deanna
