Can Dog Food Have Strange Effects on Your Dog?

by Anonymous

We were recently given an 8 month old Bichon Frise. We've kept him on the same food he was eating, but I've noticed after every meal time, puppy begins to spaz out. He runs around the room in circles four or five times in a row nonstop.

Is this normal?

If your new little puppy doesn't appear to be in any pain, discomfort or obvious distress, it could just be that he's doing his little happy dance, now that his tummy is nice and full! Watch that he doesn't go too crazy, though. Too much hyperactivity straight after a meal can cause dogs to vomit up their undigested food.

All dogs have their cute quirky little ways, and you'll notice more and more of them the longer you have him. You will also learn to tell the happy antics apart from a behavior that might be of concern.

Why not start off by asking his previous owners if this is his usual mealtime routine? Speaking to them could give you the reassurance you're seeking.

Hope this helps. He sounds adorable, we're sure your new baby will bring you many years of love, loyalty, fun and happiness. :-)

Bichon Blitz

Don't you love the Bichon blitz. It is so funny - just go to You Tube where you will find about a thousand videos of this amazing breed just doing it's thing. I love my Darby and her little moments - so funny.

Most Bichons have BLITZing its a Bichon characteristic! Ours does it too!
However they seldom do it at the same time every day. Just whenever is kinda the norm. Not sure if the food has anything to do with it.

Bichon Trait

This is normal for the breed - "run like heck with abandon" whenever they feel the need. I have three Bichons ranging in age from 3 up to 14 and even the 14 year old does this - although not quite as often as she used to.
