One program offered through Our Companions is SafePet.

This program offers elderly in need of hospitalization, and domestic violence victims, the opportunity to have their beloved pets placed with one of their foster families for up to 60 days, while they can heal or escape and reestablish a safer life without fear of leaving their pet behind with an abuser.

In some cases, people are unwilling to leave because pets are not allowed in shelters.
